Steve Chariyasatit is an associate in the Labor and Employment group in Arent Fox’s Los Angeles office. His practice focuses on employment litigation and advising employers on various aspects of labor and employment law, including wage and hour issues, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation, employment contracts, internal investigations, performance counseling and discipline, hiring, RIFs, and terminations.

Client Work

Steve’s experience includes managing employment cases ranging from large wage and hour class actions to single plaintiff claims alleging misclassification, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, fraud, and/or wrongful termination. He has also advised corporate clients in retail, technology and entertainment industries on a wide variety of employment law issues, including hiring and terminations, furloughs, employee classification, compensation, leaves of absence, corrective action, and implementation of or changes to company policies.

Previous Work

Before joining Arent Fox, Steve was in-house counsel in Employment Litigation with a major entertainment company.  Prior to that, he was an associate at an international law firm.

Professional Activities

Steve is a Founding Member of the Thai American Bar Association and member of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles County.  He previously served as Vice President and Board Member of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley.

Parties Should Consider Judges When Approving Settlements

On May 29, 2014, U.S. District Judge William Alsup of the Northern District of California denied preliminary approval of a proposed settlement between Defendant Aeropostale Inc. and named Plaintiff Portia Daniels in a collective action involving claims for failure to pay overtime wages. Judge Alsup took issue with the settlement largely because the majority of opt-in collective action members would have to “give a release and covenant not to sue defendants in exchange for zero cash,” among other failings.
