AFS will host a two-part hybrid program (with a reception to follow) in our Chicago office, addressing timely topics for family offices, private clients, and their advisors. Speakers include AFS Partners David Blickenstaff, Adam Diederich, and Kevin Matz and Associate Kirstie Brenson.

In the first segment, “Don’t Let Your Privilege Turn Into a Pumpkin,” David Blickenstaff, Adam Diederich, and Kirstie Brenson will use practical case studies to examine how a family office and its clients, or their lawyers, can inadvertently risk exposing privileged communications to the IRS or litigation opponents. The discussion will focus on common privilege pitfalls in structuring, operations, and information sharing, along with concrete steps you can take to preserve privilege and protect sensitive communications.

In the second segment, “Tricks and Treats of the OBBBA,” Kevin Matz will highlight key provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and discuss its implications for estate planning going forward. He will also address new opportunities and traps for the unwary arising from investments in qualified opportunity zone (QOZ) funds, with a focus on planning considerations, compliance touchpoints, and risk mitigation.

This event will be offered in-person in our Chicago office and is available for virtual viewing. In-person guests are welcome to join a reception at the conclusion of the program.
