Kay Georgi speaks on a panel at the Inter-Pacific Bar Association Annual Meeting and Conference.
This session explores the complex interplay between the evolving role of international sanctions, blocking statutes, and their impact on global trade and security. It delves into how governments, international organizations, and financial institutions use sanctions as tools to combat terrorism and navigate geopolitical tensions while also addressing the challenges they pose to the movement of goods and services across borders. Very real world, down to earth, illustrations will be brough forth including the flow from Russian sanctions, the imposition of price caps, and sanctions in cloud based environments as well.
The session will aim to analyse the effectiveness of sanctions, the legal, economic and ethical implications of sanctions and blocking statutes, exploring how they impact global trade, business strategies, and the political landscape. The discussions will also explore strategies businesses can employ to comply with these regulations while maintaining their global operations. As this is done, the panelist will offer a critical analysis of how countries balance national interests with international diplomacy while managing the delicate interplay between terrorism, geopolitics, and economic connectivity in a rapidly changing world.
