Rivera Quoted on US-China Trade Tensions on Rare Earth Minerals

Partner Antonio Rivera was quoted on the impact of China’s expanded rare earth export controls and the United States’ responding tariffs on global supply chains.
Tony said that the sudden escalation between the United States and China is forcing companies to quickly reassess their supply chain strategies.
He said, “Clients are rapidly mapping risk to specific Chinese entities, regions and critical inputs to protect against trade barriers that are creating sudden restrictions on their supply chain.”
Tony said that the latest actions between the United States and China demonstrate how unstable the current trade landscape is.
“Announcements have swung from speculative reports to near-immediate tariff or control actions, followed by rapid modifications and carveouts,” he said. “Whether as negotiating leverage or deliberate escalation, this cadence suggests continued volatility through the near term, warranting contingency planning for additional tariff adjustments, sector-specific surcharges, and additional trade barriers that could land with limited notice.”
