Birkhold Quoted on “Click-Through” Training in Anti-Corruption Three-Part Report Series

Anti-Corruption Report

Partner Alexander Birkhold was quoted in a recent discussion on the effectiveness of “click-through training,” referring to trainings using click-through screens and multiple-choice tests, in corporate compliance training.

Alex noted that clicking from screen to screen shows some level of engagement and participation. He said, “Companies choose click-through training as a way to make sure personnel pay attention.”

However, deploying multiple, annual trainings using the same model can lead to less user engagement overall.

“There can be a tendency to mindlessly click-through generic trainings a worker saw the year before,” Alex said, adding that “just because a user is clicking through a training does not necessarily mean that the experience is a meaningful engagement.”

“The intrinsic value of click-through training depends on its content,” Alex said. Trainings should be risk-based and help employee navigate ethical dilemmas they are likely to encounter at work.
