ArentFox Schiff is hosting and sponsoring the 2025 NYSSCPA Private Wealth Conference on December 11th in New York. Speakers include AFS Partners Kevin Matz, Todd Angkatavanich, and Tracy McLaughlin.
Join AFS partners Kevin Matz, Todd Angkatavanich, and Tracy McLaughlin at the NYSSCPA Private Wealth Conference, a premier private wealth, trusts, and estates conference. The event will be hosted in AFS’ New York office. The program will deliver timely, practitioner-focused content on federal and state tax developments, sophisticated planning strategies, and practical insights for advisors and family offices.
In their session “Recent Developments Affecting Estate Planning,” Kevin Matz, Todd Angkatavanich, and Tracy McLaughlin will examine the most consequential changes shaping estate planning today. The discussion will address planning in light of the permanent estate and gift tax exclusion changes. Their analysis will highlight the implications for gift timing, leverage strategies, and wealth transfer design. The panel will also explore the IRS’s position on grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs) in the Elcan case and the practical takeaways for GRAT structuring and risk management. Rounding out the session, the presenters will cover significant New York State developments, including the latest on electronic wills and the New York LLC Transparency Act, as well as material changes to the rules governing Qualified Small Business Stock (QSBS) under the new tax law and what they mean for founders, investors, and estate planners.
In “Planning with Qualified Opportunity Zone (QOZ) Funds Under the New Tax Law,” Conference Chair and NYSSCPA President Kevin Matz will provide a focused, practice-oriented deep dive on planning with QOZ Funds under the new tax law. He will address the evolving “Tranche 2” rules that take effect January 1, 2027, and outline strategies to navigate the regime’s technical requirements while identifying opportunities for tax deferral and basis planning. Kevin will also spotlight traps for the unwary, including compliance pitfalls and the looming deferred gain recognition date of December 31, 2026, with practical guidance on risk mitigation and transaction execution.
Todd Angkatavanich will also moderate a dynamic discussion on the most pressing tax issues facing family offices. In “The Family Office Roundtable – Hot Topics in Taxation,” Todd will explore emerging trends, operational and governance considerations, coordinated income and transfer tax planning, and practical techniques to address complexity across entities, jurisdictions, and asset classes.
A networking reception will follow the program. For more information, click here.
