AFS partner Kevin Matz will be speaking at the NYSSCPA’s Queens-Brooklyn In Person Tax Conference on November 10.
In his presentation, “Estate and Gift Tax Update,” partner Kevin Matz will deliver a comprehensive briefing on recent federal and New York State transfer tax developments, with a focus on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. He will examine the permanent $15 million estate, gift, and GST exemptions beginning in 2026; New York’s estate tax regime and cliff mitigation strategies; and new savings and education enhancements, including Trump Accounts and expanded 529 plan uses. Kevin will also provide an in-depth analysis of Qualified Opportunity Zones and Funds, covering the transition to a new “Tranche 2” starting January 1, 2027, rolling gain deferral, basis step-ups, tightened zone eligibility, special rural fund incentives, and key estate-planning implications for gifts, bequests, death, and pass-through structures. Attendees will gain practical guidance to navigate planning opportunities, compliance considerations, and liquidity needs in light of these changes.
