Santos Quoted by The New York Times on Importers Lowering Duty Liability

Customs & Import Compliance Practice Leader Angela Santos was quoted on how importers are strategizing to lessen their liability under the Trump Administration’s tariffs.
Angela said that the “supply chain engineering” tactic used during the 2018 trade war is less popular this time because the tariffs are more widespread. However, companies are finding alternative means, such as making sure the tariff is assessed on the shipment’s value when it leaves the factory, rather than further down the supply chain.
“They’re taking any legal avenue they can to lower their duty liability,” she said.
