AFS associate Xiang Qu presented at the New York City Bar Association on October 6.
In his presentation, “Hot Topics in International Estate Planning,” Xiang explored, together with his co-presenters, the core tax principles that shape cross-border planning and compliance for global mobile high-net-worth families and their businesses. The CLE program equipped practicing attorneys to identify common pitfalls involving foreign trusts and foreign corporations, addressed practical strategies for non-U.S. persons to invest in US real property, and analyzed tax cost for US persons to give up a US green card or renounce US citizenship. The presentation further highlighted recent legislative developments, including changes to the controlled foreign corporation (“CFC”) downward attribution rules and the new Code Section 951B regime under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
